Bengaluru: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday alleged that corruption was rampant in Karnataka and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of assuming power by “poaching” Congress leaders.
Speaking at a public meeting in Davanagere’s Harihara, Gandhi said: “Due to the corruption in Karnataka, people in the state have become poor. The BJP came to power by poaching our leaders. Even this time, they have made similar plans.”
“We need to win 150 seats in this election. Otherwise, they will poach our leaders. Please vote with caution,” the leader told the gathering.
Launching an attack on the Prime Minister, Gandhi said Modi should speak more about Karnataka and less about himself.
“This election is not about you Prime Minsiter but about the people, farmers, workers and youth of Karnataka. Speak about Karnataka and its people in your speeches and not about yourself. The BJP has released its manifesto. Before talking about the promises, let them tell the people how many of the assurances from the previous manifesto were delivered.
“Tell the people that 70 per cent of the promises made in your previous manifesto were unfulfilled. We have mentioned our guarantees and we will implement them in the first Cabinet meeting once we assume power.”
Gandhi also visited the Panchamasali Jagadguru Peetha in Harihar. He met Swami Vachanananda, sought his blessing and spoke with him briefly.
